My Journey

Well, it all started waaaay back when I was a little girl.

Okay, not quite THIS far back.

We need to jump ahead a few years…

Now, THIS is more like it.

I was a shy, quiet little girl; very much a ‘loner. I always had a group of friends growing up, although that group of friends would change from time to time because my family moved a lot when I was young.

When not ‘hanging’ out with my friends, I would be in my bedroom running my business or corporation. Other times, I was the ‘Superintendent’ of schools. I don’t know where I got these ideas of running my own businesses from, as I was raised by a single, stay at home mom, who was ‘there’, every day, not out at work or running her own company.

At a time when children were taught reading, writing & arithmetic in order to prepare for getting good jobs working for someone else, I was fantasizing about working for myself. At that time though, I hadn’t been consciously thinking about running my own business when I grew up, as at the time, I didn’t know this could be ‘real’. I was just ‘playing’ or ‘play acting’.

Now, fast forward…,

let’s just say, several years…, okay, maybe several decades, but who’s counting 😉

I’ve actually been working for myself since my late 20’s.
I had a cleaning business for 20 yrs. I liked the freedom it
gave me, but financially, I was barely scraping by.

I knew I wasn’t going to be cleaning homes in my ‘golden years’.
Nor did I want to deal with the hiring of contractors or employees;
been there, done that. Let’s just say, not an enjoyable experience. Turns out, play acting as a little girl, wasn’t quite, the imaginings, I had as a child.

I had been online-marketing already for several years. I tried many different things including working on teams. If you haven’t tried this yourself, the idea being, that the team would promote one member at a time to help build each other’s businesses. I thought it sounded great…, in theory. But, unfortunately, this didn’t work out as I had hoped, since you had to depend on the other team members pulling their own weight, which many, didn’t. So, I guess you can probably imagine how THAT ended.

Then, I tried monetizing my websites with Adsense ads, but back then, they didn’t have much, if any support for advertisers. I had issues with certain aspects of how they operated, so I didn’t do this for long. I made a little money but it wasn’t worth the aggravation. From what I’ve seen lately, they may have improved somewhat but that could be due to all the other competing ‘ad programs’ that have cropped up, in the online space.

People seem to now be making just as much, if not more money with some of these ‘other’ ad programs but Adsense is easier to start with, as you don’t have the large website traffic requirement, that many of these other ‘ad programs’ have in place, in order to get started.

I had gotten so discouraged at one point, after putting in hours most days, for 13 months straight, building other peoples’ businesses, then not receiving the same consideration, and realizing that I could have been using that time & energy building MY OWN online empire and then, the monetization not working out as I thought it would, that I basically put working on-line, on hold, for a couple of years. I’d sell an affiliate product from time to time, but that was about it. I was in a bit of a funk & didn’t know what or where my next step should be.

So, with the online programs / systems I had been using & Adsense not working out for me, either, I had a difficult time getting back into the ‘mind set’ I needed in order to buckle down and start again with a new business and a new plan.

Well, I got myself a new computer, (refurbished, actually, but new to me, as mine had crashed), found a couple of online marketers (been on their email list for a couple years already) who’s ‘lead’ I could follow and got myself set up with a business idea and a plan.

Now, here I am….

                                     Ready,

                                                                     Set,

                                                                                           Go!

I’ve discovered that affiliate marketing is not very profitable unless your site has tens of thousands of hits per day. The ones that pay pennies per click might not work but many will split a sale giving you 50% of each. I have several websites, a blog and a Podcast and managed to make enough for a motorcycle and gas money over the past 9 years, not much more. Best of luck.
