My Journey

Well, it all started waaaay back when I was a little girl.

Okay, not quite THIS far back.

We need to jump ahead a few years…

Now, THIS is more like it.

I was a very shy, quiet little girl.  And even though I had friends growing up, I was also very much a ‘loner.   When not ‘hanging’ out with my friends, I would be in my room running my small, sometimes large corporations.  Other times, I was the ‘Superintendent’ of schools.  I don’t know where I got these ideas of running my own businesses from, as I was raised by a single, stay at home mom, who was ‘there’, every day, not out at work or running her own company.

At a time when children were taught reading, writing & arithmetic in order to prepare for getting good jobs working for someone else, I was fantasizing about working for myself.  At that time though, I hadn’t been consciously thinking about running my own business when I grew up, as at the time, I didn’t know this could be ‘real’.  I was just ‘playing’ or ‘play acting’.

Now, fast forward…,

let’s just say, several years…, okay, maybe several decades, but who’s counting.

I’ve actually been working for myself since my mid – late 20’s.
I had a house cleaning business for about 15 yrs. I liked the
freedom it gave me, but financially, I was barely scraping by.
I knew I wasn’t going to be cleaning homes in my ‘golden years’.
Nor did I want to deal with the hiring of contractors or employees;
been there, done that. Let’s just say, not an enjoyable experience. Turns out, play acting as a little girl, wasn’t quite, the imaginings, I had as a child.

I had been online-marketing already for several years.  I tried many different things including working on teams, on a couple different occasions.  If you haven’t tried this yourself, the idea being, that the team would promote one member at a time to help build each others’ businesses.  I thought it sounded great…, in theory.  But, unfortunately, this didn’t work out as I had hoped since you had to depend on the other team members pulling their own weight, which many, didn’t   So, I guess you can probably imagine how THAT ended.

I had gotten so discouraged at one point, after putting in hours most days, for 13 months straight, building other peoples’ businesses, then not receiving the same consideration, and realizing that I could have been using that time & energy building MY OWN online empire.

Then, Adsense kicked me in the teeth.  I was going to be away from my computer for about 3 weeks on a large outside job I was helping a friend with.  I didn’t want there to be no activity on my site so I had purchased some traffic.  Now, I was generally new to obtaining traffic but also knew to stay away from certain types of ‘bad’ traffic.  But, again, I was new to buying it so I didn’t know that some would ‘outsource’ their traffic & I ended up getting ‘bad’ traffic, after all.  Seeing as I wasn’t around much for a few weeks, I missed the warning email from Adsense, if they even sent me one & by the time I was back home & checking on stats, I had been ‘banned’ & they don’t give second chances, apparently.  Since I was new with Adsense, I thankfully, only lost a few dollars that I had made with Adsense ads.

So, with the programs I had been with & then Adsense not working out for me, either, I had a difficult time getting back into the ‘mind set’ I needed in order to buckle down and start again with a new business and a new plan;  for this reason, I hadn’t done much online marketing for about 3 yrs.  I’d sell an affiliate product from time to time, but that was about it.  I was in a bit of a funk & didn’t know what or where my next step should be.

Well, I got myself a new computer, (refurbished, actually, but new to me, as mine had crashed), found a couple of online marketers (been on their email list for a couple years already) who’s lead I could follow and got myself set up with a business idea and a plan.

Now, here I am….

                                        Ready,

                                                      Set,

                                                             Go!

I’ve discovered that affiliate marketing is not very profitable unless your site has tens of thousands of hits per day. The ones that pay pennies per click might not work but many will split a sale giving you 50% of each. I have several websites, a blog and a Podcast and managed to make enough for a motorcycle and gas money over the past 9 years, not much more. Best of luck.
